Meet Radhika Gupta, MD and CEO of Edelweiss Mutual Fund who has now joined the popular reality TV show on startup funding, Shark Tank India as its newest shark.
Popularly known as ‘the girl with a broken neck’, Radhika started working at Edelweiss Global Asset Management as the business head of multi-strategy funds and was responsible for setting the strategic direction for the team’s investment, distribution and platform.
She became the youngest Indian CEO at 33 and set up India’s first domestic hedge fund at 36. Radhika Gupta is a true inspiration for entrepreneurs and everyone who wants to do something big. Now, she is joining Shark Tank India as its newest judge for its third season streaming this January.
Inspiring Entrepreneurial Journey
Radhika Gupta was born in 1983 to a diplomat father who was an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) official at that time posted in Pakistan. She had a challenging childhood as an introvert as she had to move cities or countries every few years.
Due to some complications at her birth, she ended up with a tilted neck and that shattered her confidence even pushing her towards depression and suicide.
But a turning point came in her life when she appeared for an interview at McKinsey & Company and got the job as a Business Analyst.
After working for some time there, she worked for AQR Capital Management as a portfolio manager. In 2009, she along with her husband Nalin Moniz and a colleague from AQR, founded Forefront Capital Management to focus on alternative investments.
This was also when they set up the country’s first domestic-registered hedge fund. Five years later, the firm was acquired by Edelweiss Financial Services in the year 2014. And, after heading Edelweiss Multi Strategy Funds Management for some time, Radhika Gupta was made the CEO of Edelweiss Mutual Fund.
Her entrepreneurial journey is a great example of hard work, dedication, patience and the spirit of achieving one’s dreams despite a million challenges. Today, Radhika Gupta is a renowned and very respected businesswoman who is a role model for every other entrepreneur and businessman.
